LESSON 22
TOPIC: Help the Poor (2) TEXT: Luke 16:19-31

MEMORY VERSE: Deuteronomy 15:11 “For the poor shall never cease out of the land.”

TEACHER’S OBJECTIVE
To let the children know:
1. When we help the poor, God will bless us.
2. When we help the poor, we are helping Jesus indirectly.
3. Failure to help the poor will lead to hell fire.
4. To help the poor is God’s command.

CENTRAL TRUTH
Whatever help we render to the poor, we render it to Jesus.

INTRODUCTION
The rich man refused to help Lazarus, the poor man. He later ended up his life in hell. Who is a poor person? Someone in need, somebody who lacks daily provision. God expects us to help the poor. When we help the poor, God will be happy with us. When we help the poor we are helping Jesus (Matthew 25:34-40). When we help the poor God will bless us. (Psalm 41:1).

PROGRESSION OF EVENTS
1. Lazarus died and was carried by angels to Abraham’s bosom. Luke 16:22.
2. The rich man died and was buried and he went to hell. Luke 16:22-23.
3. In hell the rich man cried for help but no help was given him. Luke 16:24.
4. He also requested for Lazarus to go and warn his five brothers so that they do not
    follow his footsteps. Luke 16:27-28.
5. Father Abraham told the rich man that if his brothers would not listen to Moses and
the prophets neither would they listen to someone who rose from the dead. Luke 16:31.

LIFE APPLICATION
God gives riches to us so that we can help the poor. When we help the poor we are helping
Jesus and He will bless us. There is no help in hell. Hell is a place of torment. The poor are
always in the land. God created both the rich and the poor and God expects the rich to help
the poor.

MESSAGE OF SALVATION
If you have Jesus in your life then you are rich. Those who do not have Jesus are poor
spiritually; you can help them by telling them the good news.

CONCLUSION
It is God’s command to help the poor. The poor are always in the land, when you help the poor
God will bless the work of your hands and you would have more, so you can help the more.
